(Unofficial) gathering in Tokyo on the Eve of RubKaigi2010
Aug 23, 2010 From: behzodkuchkorov@g...
Dear all,
Since many of you are arriving to Tokyo a few days earlier, and there
are many of us who live and work in Tokyo, I thought it would be a
good idea to meet for drinks the night before RubyKaigi starts off.
This is an unofficial gathering, not endorsed by RubyKaigi or any
other organization. There will be no commercial agenda either. Just
meet, chat and have drinks. To have a good mix, I have invited some of
active developers (not exactly Rubyists) who live and work in Tokyo.
You don't have book seats, neither there is any participation fee.
Just pay for whatever you order at the bar counter. I am sure this
will be a great blend of idea sharing between Japanese, foreigners who
live in Japan, and foreign guests.
Venue: Bar "RIGOLETTO", Shin Marunouchi Bld., 7th floor
http://bit.ly/dwtheK
(this is right accross the street from Tokyo Station, Marunouchi North Exit)
Date& kick-off time: August 26 (Thursday) from 18:30 onwards
(you can join and leave anytime you want)
I will be at the venue and try to have something on mentioning Ruby.
If you have any problems finding the place, please do not hesitate to
call 090-7909-0226.
See you soon.

I would love to come! Thanks for organizing!
On Thursday, I'm moving from Tokyo to a place in Tsukuba, closer to
the conference. Google maps says it's about an hour on the train
between Tokyo station and Tsukuba. Hopefully I can make it back from
Tsukuba for the event.

I need to check into my hotel in Tsukuba on the 26th, so I'd like to try for
an early dinner at (or near) RIGOLETTO, We should also try to find a
late-night place in Tsukuba to meet-up, for folks that are already there.

Hello.
Are there any gathering in Tsukuba on 26th Sep,too?
I am arriving on the day and giving presentation on 27th. I assume I am
going to have massive jet lag, so going to Tokyo and coming back with last
train may be a bit too risky...
If anyone going to have dinner in Tsukuba, let me know. I would like to jump
in if I am still awake ;-)
Cheers.

Nice one.
About dinner time, Anyone have any preference? I arrive in Narita at 9:30 in
the morning and will probably in Tsukuba by Noon, so any time is fine by me.
If no preference, we can tentatively set as 6pm.
Ruby Kaigi staff no mina sama. Are there any recommended Izakaya place in
Tsukuba?
Cheers.

Kakutani san. Thank you for the info.
Looks our heart are all set for Yakiniku. The Toraji place(
http://www.ebisu-toraji.com/shop/tsukuba.html) seems to have English menu.
To be honest all the Japanese you need to know there are "Karubi (Ribs)" and
"Nama Biru (Draft Beer)"
So far 6 ~7 people showed interests. I just called the restaurant and booked
for 7 ~ 10 people starting 6pm.
John Woodell + 1 ?
Paul Elliott
Charles Oliver Nutter
Tom Enebo
Jake Scrugg
Makoto Inoue
Let me know if other people are interested. I will call the restaurant again
if it reaches more than 10 people.
Let's meet straight at the restaurant (looks very close from the Tsukuba
station ), though I will be around the station (around exit 1) 10 ~ 15
minutes earlier for the people who are not sure around the area. FYI, I look
like this (http://twitter.com/makoto_inoue).
For anyone who arrived the restaurant before me, say we booked under the
name "Inoue"( pronounces like http://inogolo.com/pronunciation/Inoue ) at
6.
You can say that in Japanese like this "Roku ji kara Inoue de yoyaku shima
shita " if you feel brave ;-)
See you there.

Hi everyone!
I would like to clarify here. This thread started by offer to meet in *Tokyo
on Aug 26th evening. Three people - Daniel Bovensiepen, John Woodell, Sarah
Mei - have shown intention to show up, but quite larger group has decided to
meet in Tsukuba for Yakiniku and/or Izakaya.
Since John and Sarah will be traveling to Tsukuba that night anyway, I am OK
if we cancel Tokyo meeting and everyone adjoins to Tsukuba crew. In this
case the number of people for Yakiniku party will go up to 12-13, if not
more.
What do you guys think?

Looks our heart are all set for Yakiniku. The Toraji place( http://www.ebisu-toraji.com/shop/tsukuba.html) seems to have English menu. To be honest all the Japanese you need to know there are "Karubi (Ribs)" and "Nama Biru (Draft Beer)"
So far 6 ~7 people showed interests. I just called the restaurant and booked for 7 ~ 10 people starting 6pm.

Let me know if other people are interested. I will call the restaurant again if it reaches more than 10 people.
Let's meet straight at the restaurant (looks very close from the Tsukuba station ), though I will be around the station (around exit 1) 10 ~ 15 minutes earlier for the people who are not sure around the area. FYI,
I
look like this (http://twitter.com/makoto_inoue).
For anyone who arrived the restaurant before me, say we booked under the name "Inoue"( pronounces like http://inogolo.com/pronunciation/Inoue ) at 6.

I think Tom, Valerie and I may not get back in time for this dinner so
don't count us in anymore. We wanted to get out and about a bit and it
sounds like the group has gotten really large anyway.
We may come by if we get back at a reasonable time, but otherwise
we'll just fend for ourselves. See you all tomorrow for sure!

Hi everyone!
I would like to clarify here. This thread started by offer to meet in Tokyo on Aug 26th evening. Three people - Daniel Bovensiepen, John Woodell, Sarah Mei - have shown intention to show up, but quite larger group has decided to meet in Tsukuba for Yakiniku and/or Izakaya.
Since John and Sarah will be traveling to Tsukuba that night anyway, I am OK if we cancel Tokyo meeting and everyone adjoins to Tsukuba crew. In this case the number of people for Yakiniku party will go up to 12-13, if not more.

FYI, I look like this (http://twitter.com/makoto_inoue).
For anyone who arrived the restaurant before me, say we booked under the name "Inoue"( pronounces like http://inogolo.com/pronunciation/Inoue ) at 6.
You can say that in Japanese like this "Roku ji kara Inoue de yoyaku shima shita " if you feel brave ;-)
See you there.

Ok.
The restaurant is at 3rd floor of a shopping mall called Creo Square Q't. If
you come by bus, the building is right in front of you at the bus stop.
